SELLING
ADVICE & TIPS
Selling your vehicle to a private party can be intimidating and costly if you are not prepared. There are a few things to remember when starting your selling process and the Auto Wizard has a few suggestions that could save you a little time and make you a little more money on the vehicle you’re attempting to sell.
1. Find out what the current market value is on your particular make and model so that you can set a reasonable asking price. There are several internet sales sites you can log on to and find other vehicles being sold similar to yours. Make sure you compare equipment, miles, and condition and then adjust your price accordingly. You can also go to the home page and find the APPRAISAL tab and let the Auto Wizard give you an estimated value of your vehicle.
2. Take a good look at your vehicle. Walk around it a few times and really look it over. Check out things like your tire tread, cracks in the windshield, scratches or blemishes in the paint and don’t forget to look inside for stains and interior damage. These are things that a potential buyer can use to negotiate the price down. Decide now on what issues to fix before you sell it. If you don’t know just ask yourself. ‘Would I buy this vehicle, for the price I’m selling it for, not fixed?’ Remember your trying to increase your value not lower it.
3. Marketing your vehicle is also very crucial it’s not only where to advertise its when. For instance, you don’t want to sell your convertible in the winter, buyers are less likely to be looking for such a vehicle at this time. The best place to start your advertising is thru social networking such as Facebook and Twitter. These sites are free and no one knows your vehicle better than your family and friends and most people would rather buy from someone they know and trust.
4. If you decide to place your vehicle on an internet sells site such as EBAY or Craig’s list, make sure that you download at least 10 photographs. Taking one of each side, font and back, several interior, your tire tread, and under the hood. Be sure to disclose any damage that may be on the vehicle and list all options and any upgrades that you may have installed on the vehicle. Remember the more information you can give online, the fewer questions you will have to answer on the phone or by e-mail.
5. Once you have agreed on a purchase price and have committed buyer, be sure to complete the proper paperwork necessary to transfer the title and secure payment on the vehicle purchase. If you have any questions feel free to ask the Auto Wizard at the bottom of the page.
